What to Expect on the 1st Day of Your Cruise Holiday

Your first time on a cruise ship can be a daunting experience. Not only  because of the sheer scale and size of the vessel but the fact that you are  going to be experiencing a holiday like no other.

Even though you have to check-in and pass through security before you embark  on your ship the process is not as tedious or stressful as at the airport and  once it is complete you can get on board and relax- unlike an airport where you  still have a monotonous plane journey ahead of you. The first couple of hours on  any cruise ship are spent getting everything sorted out – boarding passes,  showing you to your cabin, getting your luggage sent to you etc… It may seem  like a bit of a bore at times however it is necessary and once it is out of the  way you a free to enjoy your cruise holiday.

Indeed, an important thing to note is the safety card usually located on the  back of your cabin door. Much like the one you find on an aircraft, it shows you  what to do in an emergency; while you may be eager to get on with your holiday  you should take a few moments to look over it and locate your life jacket just  in case. Another important aspect of your first day on a cruise is the Muster  Drill. Similar to the safety procedures that you see the cabin crew perform on  an aircraft, this drill will outline where to go in case of an emergency and  show you how to use your life jacket properly. It will only take a few minutes  and along with studying your safety card, it can be of great benefit in the  event of something going wrong.

Cruise holidays have the benefit of being able to visit several countries and  places without having to carry luggage around and find hotels so one of the  first acts on your cruise should be to locate the Excursion desk and find out  exactly what trips on land you will want to do – that is, of course, if they are  not already included in the price of the cruise. If they are not then it is  advised to book early as these excursions are immensely popular and will be in  huge demand.

Perhaps the most enjoyable aspect of your first day aboard a cruise ship is  exploring the decks and what is on offer. Cruise ships are huge vessels and have  just about everything squeezed in to ensure that everyone has something to do;  finding out where various bars, shops and restaurants are will save you a lot of  hassle later on so familiarize yourself with the surroundings as soon as  possible. Dinner on the first night is usually in the main dining room and is a  casual affair meaning that you do not have to dress up.

The first day of cruise holidays is all about getting to know the ship and  getting settled in. Once you are aware of the safety measures and have a good  idea of your environment then the second day onwards you will be free to enjoy  your cruise and all the wonderful experiences it has to offer.

Everybody’s individual holiday requirements are different but some cruise  holidays will fit the bill better than others. You can talk to a professional  representative, either in person at a high street travel agent or call one of  the many cruise agents featured on Cruise Holidays Guide.
